Top 5 Websites to Buy Free VPS Hosting

Here is the cheap and best solution:

So you’re going for new servers? That’s Great. Oh VPS? That’s better, smart choice. But….they’re expensive, right? Or maybe, no, they aren’t. Here, right here in this article, I’m sharing with you a list of services, free services which will let you have your VPS for FREE !

It’s not 2001 anymore, a lot of ranking metrics are considered while ranking your blog by Google. Most times, people cover each and every aspect of On-page & Off-Page SEO, and they still can’t get their blog to rank anywhere, and they are like, “why am not I ranking?” !

Well, the point is, the site speed, is a very crucial part of your site’s ranking. And you can ensure a good site speed by having a good server. Now, what does “good server” mean?

Good server, is a server which can handle the traffic you are getting without going down. A good server gives you enough bandwidth to handle a good real-time population on the blog, a good server doesn’t lag your site down. So, now ask yourself, do you need a good server?

I’m pretty sure if you have your I.Q level anywhere more than 10-12, your answer will be, “Yes”!  The server is the backbone, right? So, of course, yes, you need good servers.

Now the point is, “Good servers” also cost good money, I’m sure if you’re just starting out, you can afford the 29$/month servers from WpEngine, right? ( Although, they’re totally worth it ! ).

So, how to go about it? How to get a good server, without burning a hole in the pocket? That’s exactly what this guide is about. I’d help you, get a VPS ( Virtual Private Server) for a very cheap price, and by cheap, I mean $0.00 . Yes, you can grab one, for free!

Before getting your free VPS, isn’t it better to have a couple of words on Why you even need a VPS? Why not just a Shared server? Or what is a VPS server?

So here’s it….

Sneak Peek into the guide:-

  • What is a VPS server?

  • How is a VPS different from a Shared Server.

  • Amazon Web Services.

  • Features you’re getting with AWS.

  • Step-by-step Guide on setting up your AWS VPS.

  • 5Jelly.

  • GratIsVPS

  • YoCats

  • 3Jelly

What is a VPS server?

A VPS server is like an an apartment, on rent. You rent out different rooms, let’s say Kitchen, Bathroom, living area, etc. in an apartment right? That’s how VPS server works too.

Let me explain this better, there is a bigger server, called the Dedicated Server, and it is like the “Whole Building.” And you can rent out certain apartments from the building for your use, these apartments are the VPS servers.

In other words, VPS is a server, with most of the functionalities of a dedicated server, but it isn’t a dedicated server. You get your own resources, Space, bandwidth, and everything else, you are the sole owner, and administrator, you have full access to it, but it isn’t a dedicated server.

How is a VPS different from a Shared Server:

Shared server is like having to share a room on rent, with a room-mate. You have access to the kitchen, bathroom, and the living room. But you have to share it with your partner, right?

Similarly, with Shared hosting you get access to resources, but you have to share it with other clients. So, if you ever start getting a lot of traffic, then other clients would be affected, as the resources are limited, so in return your hosting company then limits your resources, and so your site goes down, that’s what happens.

Also, you don’t get root access to a shared server, you have to rely on the hosting company for many things, but with a VPS you are the sole administrator of the servers with root access, and you can do whatever you wish for.

Here’s a good illustration from the WHSR guys, differentiating between the differences on Shared and VPS servers

VpsIllustration

So probably it’s clear to you that, a VPS is definitely something worth going for, if you have the least bit of love towards your sites or blogs, and what can be better than getting it for free!

Okay, so let’s work on getting you your first VPS. There, of course, are lot’s of platforms for that, like a lot. So worry not, you’re going to find Free VPS Hosting right here.

Here are Top 5 Websites to Buy Free VPS Hosting

#1. Amazon Web Services:

Let’s start with AWS, I’ll be covering the step by step guide, on setting up your AWS account, and server, with screenshots. Then we can discuss the features, and then move on to discussing the other servers in brief.

Amazon Web Services is a side-project from Amazon.com, yes The AmazonI’m beginning to feel that you are already getting a pretty neat idea that you can trust the company. Of course you can, Amazon is a world leader in a lot of things, so that’s just one of the reasons to trust it, don’t worry I’m giving you more concrete reasons below.

So for now, let’s work on How to set up an Amazon Web server for free. Well, AWS gives you a one-year free service, of your own Virtual Private Server, so if you’re just starting out, or even if you are a pro, then it’s the thing for you.

A good strategy here would be, to set up your blog on free VPS for a year, make some money, and then buy the next year services without a problem. It’s like AWS eliminates the “startup money” problem!

Okay, so what does AWS has to offer you? Why should you even bother signing up over there? Here are some of the reasons I’d say you should consider:

Features you’re getting with AWS:-

  • 750 hours of EC2 running Linux, RHEL, or SLES t2.micro instance usage.

  • 750 hours of EC2 running Microsoft Windows Server t2.micro instance usage

  • 750 hours of Elastic Load Balancing plus 15 GB data processing

  • 30 GB of Amazon Elastic Block Storage in any combination of General Purpose (SSD) or Magnetic, plus 2 million I/Os (with Magnetic) and 1 GB of snapshot storage

  • 15 GB of bandwidth out aggregated across all AWS services

  • 1 GB of Regional Data Transfer

  • 1 GB RAM for EC2 instance.

Good enough? That’s more, a lot more than any shared server could get you, ever. If you aren’t the “tech” guy in your team, don’t bother thinking over what those complicated terms are, in simple words they just mean: – AWS is freaking awesome!

And guess what, AWS is giving you so many features, that you don’t even need to use all of them! Yes, for a VPS, you only need a handful of stuff, I’m listing the ingredients here:-

  1. A virtual machine running on Linux OS (Ubuntu). {EC2 Instance}

  2. 30 GB of SSD storage.

  3. 15 GB of Bandwith.

  4. 1 GB of RAM

So you’ve ample of everything you need, right? (It’s like, Amazon if offering you a lot more, then you need! They just can’t see you unsatisfied, duh !)

Alright, so in order to setup your AWS account, you need a couple of physical things too,

  • Get an Amazon Account. ( it’s free, so worry not!)

  • A Debit / Credit Card, which I’m sure you have. ( No, don’t worry you aren’t going to be charged a single $, it’s just for verifying that you’re a human being, and not just another bot or “not so serious” guy spamming their super awesome free service).

  • A cell number ( Don’t tell me you don’t have a cell phone, you do right? Cool )

  • A Pan Card.

Setting up your AWS Free VPS server:

Login to your AWS Amazon Account

AmazonSignup

Once you complete the Signup/ login, you’ll be taken to the next page, where you have to input your contact details, like the Email Id. do that, and proceed.

contactDetailsimage

The next page will ask you to enter your Debit /Credit Card details. Fill in the details. ( Don’t worry, AWS is a Billion$ company, they won’t do anything they shouldn’t be doing.)

AWSCarddetails

Done that? Now, you’ll be charged Rs.2 from your card, which is equal to $0.029 . Don’t worry, they’ll refund this amount once they verify that your card is working, which takes less then 2 days in most cases.

Now, when you click on continue, you’ll be taken to a page where you enter your cell number. Once you do that, you’ll receive a call from AWS, with a special OTP ( A secret number ). Just enter this OTP on the page you’re on, and you’re done!

Congratulations, you just set up your first Free Amazon AWS VPS account!

You have your account, now let’s get to some real business. Here’s how to configure the VPS!

Once you complete the mobile verification, you’d land on the Amazon Console.

AmazonConsole

Ah, too many complicated terms right? Why do you think I’m here? We need the EC2 Virtual Private Servers for you. but wait, first let’s take care of other important things.  For eg. your server location.

On the top bar, you can choose your server location, you need to make sure you choose some place near to your Target audience. For e.g.,. if you’re targeting American audience, choose a server in the US.

serverlocation

If your country exactly isn’t available. Then choose the closest region. For eg. if you’re in India, you need to go with the Asia Pacific (Singapore) region.

So you’ve got your location right? Now let’s create the server. Click on the EC2 Virtual Private Server option from the console.

Which will take you to the following screen, click Launch Instance on this screen?

launchedinstance

On the next screen, you’ll be getting a lot’s of options. Go with Ubuntu Server 14.04 LTS (HVM), SSD Volume Type.

serverType

On the next screen, set the Purpose as “General Purpose”, and the Type as “t2 Micro”.

instancetype

Now, click on the configure instance details button.

On the next screen, click on the Enable termination Process button, and click on Add Storage button.

terminationprocess

The next screen takes you to the place where you can define your space. Well, AWS gives you a whopping 30GB FREE storage. So let’s make use of it. Change the storage size from 8 (defaultto 30.

storageoption

And click on Tag instance.

On the Tag Instance page, don’t touch anything. Just leave it as the page is, and click on the Configure Security Group button.

That button would take you to the following page; this is your Security Group page, so let’s configure it. On this page, set your website name in the Security Group Name, and set anything in the description. Then, Set 3 security types to your site, which should preferably be set to SSH, HTTP, HTTPS.

SecurityGroup

Now, click on the Review and Launch button. That would take you to a screen that looks something like the below screenshot. This is your Key Pair page; you need to create your Pair key on this page, don’t worry you don’t have to program a rocket.

Choose to Create a new pair option, and then set your website name in the Key pair name box. You’d need this key to connect to your server.

Keypair

Click on the Launch Instance button, and the beautiful screen below will greet you. On this screen, you can name your Instance to anything, and click on Launch Instance again, and congratulations, your VPS is up and running !

Lanuchinstance

See? That wasn’t too hard, was it? Now you have your very own server up and running! Just get a domain and get to work.

That was just one of the providers, what if I tell you that I’ll give you a whole long list of Free VPS providers? No, you don’t need to pay me anything, just keep reading.

#2. 5Jelly:-

5Jelly

5 Jelly is another, old time player in the industry. 5Jelly is a company offering Free Shared or VPS Server! And no the company isn’t just another good for nothing option. Instead 5Jelly has been in the market for a long time, so that speaks for their quality.

Features 5Jelly has to offer for free ( for lifetime! ):-

  • 2.4 Ghz Processor

  • 20GB Storage

  • 1GB Memory

  • Linux or Windows

Okay, so it’s offering you 20GB of free storage! That’s like, more then enough. Additionally, it’s on SSD DISKS, meaning the speed of the server would be pretty impressive!

No, it’s not stopping right there, you can even choose between Linux or Windows servers! Not a lot of free VPS companies give you this option. Mostly it’s a Linux servers, but if you are the windows guy, and for some reasons need Windows and Windows only, then 5Jelly should definitely be your choice.

And hey, wait! Those features were just the Basic ones, what if I tell you, that you can have:-

  • 9.6 Ghz Processor

  • 80GB Storage

  • 4GB Memory

  • Linux or Windows

for FREE TOO! 4Gb memory, 9.6ghz Processor ! and 80 GB storage!

Seems a dream, right? That stuff just can’t be given away for free, well 5Jelly does. It’s not free exactly, but it’s free. Meaning, you can avail those features without a cost, all you have to do is Invite friends!

Yes it’s a referral thing, the basic plan lets you set up your VPS totally free, without any referral, but this super advanced plan needs referrals, but I’d say it’s still a pretty good deal for free VPS, that too for a lifetime!

#3. GratIsVps-

GratIsVps

GratIsVPS is your next best friend, if you want to give something else a try, except Amazon AWS or 5Jelly. Being frank I don’t think you’ll ever need to get to GratIsVPS cause AWS and 5Jelly are already more than enough for you, but I can assure GratIsVPS knows it’s job pretty well too.

I won’t complicate things; GratIsVPS is a platform that lets’s you set up your Free VPS server! And it has pretty good configuration too, but trust me they’ve got such an awesome User Interface, that you’ll just fall in love with their design and creative ideas, not to speak of the servers.

Anyway, I don’t think you’re on this page for “creativity,” so here’s the “Quality from GratIsVps”:-

  • 2GB RAM

  • 100GB bandwidth

  • 2Cores 3.2x GHz

  • 1Gbps Uplink

  • dDos Protected

That’s pretty cool right? 100GB Bandwidth= Almost Unlimited of it. And just look at the Uplink, 1Gbps! Can you imagine that with a shared server?

The only downside with GratIsVps is you can try it our free for 6 months. But I’d say those 6 months are totally worth it, and if done right, you can make enough money in those 6 months to buy GratIsVPS for a longer term.

#4. YoCats

Yocats

A pretty “out of the box” name right? Yeah I know. Only the founders will know the reason for naming the company that, but I’d say it was a wise choice, cause it’s simple, people remember it, and it has quality! That’s why You cats is one of the Top free VPS providers around the globe today.

YoCats offers you:-

  • Unlimited Space.

  • Unlimited Bandwidth.

  • Cpanel

  • 100mbit Port

  • and a lot more…

There isn’t much to say about YoCats, you need Free Unlimited VPS? They got it, plain and simple.

#5. 3Jelly

3Jelly

Although I could never make out the connection between 3Jelly & 5Jelly, I must say they do have a similarity. The connecting link is the Quality.

Both the companies, 3Jelly & 5Jelly, are old timers, and they’ve been providing the world with Free Quality VPS for a long time. In fact not just the VPS’s, they also provide you additional services and tools, worth a lot of money, for free.

Here’s a sneak-peek into 3Jelly’s features:-

  • Intel Core i3-540 / i5-760

  • Ram : 1GB

  • Disk space: 50GB

  • Bandwidth: 200GB

  • FREE Server Management

  • FREE CloudFlare CDN

Of course you get a core i3 processor, and 1Gb or Ram. But that’s like, you can get anywhere, right? What’s special is, 3Jelly also provides you free Server Management, meaning it works a lot like a managed server. They have their dedicated team for your support and help. Which I’d say is pretty cool, for a price of $0.00

Additionally, you also get Free Cloudflare CDN! This was totally unexpected, people spend thousands of dollars, on their CDN’s, but here 3Jelly, is getting you free, lifetime Cloudflare CDN, absolutely free!

Well, if you don’t know,  a CDN is capable of extremely reducing your site’s load time Reduce bandwidth consumption! So in short, this isn’t just the deal you would want to miss for anything. CloudFlare CDN can cost as high as $200/mo! But, you’re getting it for free. This reason itself is good enough to make me jump and grab 3Jelly !

But if you still can find a reason not to go with 3Jelly, hats of to you.

Over to you:

Okay, it’s decision time, I know you need a server, and I know you’re smart enough not to ruin your career by going with just any shitty company out there.

And hey, what’s there to lose with the companies mentioned above? They all are 100% free, right? And with great service, servers, and track record. Before spending thousands in your next VPS server, why not give them a try?

“Free is bad” is a concept that’s ruling humans for a long time, time to change it now. And the best part is if you’re just starting out, then these definitely are the best companies for you to get you a VPS. Cause they don’t need any “Startup investment”, and you still can get your site up and running, then make some money, and go with any other company or just extend your plan on the same company right?

Having 5 yearsexperience in blogging, we personally don’t recommend to use FREE VPS servers. Here are some reasons.

1. You get low-bandwidth, which will be unable to handle traffic.

2. Your precious data can be lost, as these free servers can shut down their service anytime.

3. Your content is less secure.

4. They might inject some malicious code in your blog without your knowledge.

Here is the cheap and best solution:

So that was it, folks, I hope you got a good, long, quality list of free VPS servers. And I seriously hope that AWS setup guide was worth it. Do let me know your time over this post, and your decisions in the comments, it’s a pleasure to hear from you guys.
